Many people in the front or middle offices of financial institutions view Cloud Computing as “something my IT department or software development teams deal with,” and not a technology they directly use or benefit from. Indeed, some of the large enterprise systems or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) systems they utilize may be connected to large on-premise grids or to public clouds such as Microsoft Azure in order to distribute and speed up the calculations – but this process is largely (and purposely) hidden from the system users.

However, these same users often use spreadsheets extensively, and often have mission-critical spreadsheets that are not only complex but numerous and linked – and which take a long time to calculate. But what if an error is made and not discovered until after a calculation is finished, necessitating a re-calculation of many of the spreadsheets? Or what if the calculations are needed by a certain time and not delivered on time? Important decisions often hinge on the results, and delays because of slow compute times or errors can have a significant business impact.

Many Numerix spreadsheet users may identify with these issues, as Numerix spreadsheets are often used to price extremely complicated derivative instruments or to perform complex risk calculations, which can take a while to calculate even on a powerful machine. How can a cloud platform like Microsoft Azure be used in these scenarios to get faster results?

In this webinar recorded on Ocotber 22nd, 2014 featured speaker Saeed Siddiqui shows users how Numerix Spreadsheets can be connected to the Microsoft Azure cloud, to dramatically reduce calculation times and provide faster results back to the user to facilitate faster decision-making.

During this exclusive, clients-only presentation, Mr. Siddiqui will cover:

  • Introduction to Microsoft Azure and cloud computing
  • Client case study: hooking up Numerix spreadsheets to Azure
  • Details of the Azure COM component
    • What it does
    • Design
  • Demonstration: distributing Numerix spreadsheet calculations to Azure
  • Timing results
  • Sample costs
  • Numerix’s own experiences using Azure
    • Time Savings
